In February 2025 Lebanon suspended flights to and from Iran after Israel alleged that civilian flights carried cash for Hezbollah, and its cabinet extended the suspension indefinitely. With the fall of the Assad government, it removed the two direct routes by which Iranian support reached Hezbollah.

Iran and the Levant subject to restrictions by Lebanon. A directional arrangement: the two parties do not hold the same position in it. Authored once and read from both ends.

Synthèse

In mid-February 2025 Lebanese authorities refused landing permission to Iranian flights after the IDF alleged that Iran was using civilian aircraft to bring cash to Beirut for Hezbollah, and Lebanese security sources said the United States had warned that Israel might strike the planes. On about 17 February the cabinet mandated the transport minister to extend the suspension without a date for resumption. Hezbollah supporters blocked the airport road in protest, and Iran in turn barred Lebanese aircraft. In a letter to the Security Council of 6 October 2025 (S/2025/621), Israel claimed that Iran continued to channel money to Hezbollah through direct and indirect flights, including routes via third countries such as Türkiye.

Pourquoi c’est important

It is the Lebanese state acting on Hezbollah's supply rather than its arms: a restriction on Iran, imposed after Israeli allegations and a reported US warning, aimed at how support reaches Hezbollah.

Ce qui reste inconnu

  • The cabinet decision extending the suspension was not read; its terms come from press reporting of the presidency's announcement.
  • No source read reports the suspension lifted or confirms its status in 2026; `active` rests on the absence of any reported change since February 2025.
  • The claim that Iranian money still travels by indirect flights is Israel's (S/2025/621), a party to the conflict, and is not independently verified.

Lectures que les éléments permettent aussi

  • The ban can be read as a sovereign decision against Iranian influence, or as a measure taken under the threat that Israel would strike the airport; the reporting supports both.
