What happened

The United States and coalition partners extend the air campaign against ISIS into Syria, beginning a military involvement that would run through the SDF partnership, several thousand ground troops at its height, and a full withdrawal only in April 2026.

The coalition campaign decided the caliphate's fate and anchored the northeast's autonomy — a decade of US presence whose end in 2026 removed the external guarantee the integration agreement partially replaces.
