What happened

Syria holds the first phase of indirect parliamentary elections — electoral colleges choosing two-thirds of a 210-seat People's Assembly, one-third appointed by the president. Voting is excluded in Sweida and deferred in parts of the northeast; observers note the absence of genuine opposition and the dominance of transition-aligned figures.

The elections began converting the transition's improvised authority into institutions — on terms critics call managed. The vacant Sweida and contested northeast seats map exactly onto the module's unresolved sub-theatres.
