What happened

After months of siege and a bombardment campaign that drew international condemnation, the last rebel enclaves of eastern Aleppo surrender; fighters and tens of thousands of civilians are evacuated to Idlib under a Russian-Turkish arrangement.

Aleppo's fall announced the Russian-enabled reconquest and the siege-and-evacuate model that concentrated the rebellion into Idlib — building the enclave from which the 2024 offensive would come.
