Boulikessi is overrun twice and abandoned

What happened

JNIM attacked the Malian camp at Boulikessi, in the Douentza cercle near the Burkinabè border, on 1 June 2025; security sources gave AFP a toll of at least thirty soldiers, other reporting far more. The army returned, the camp was attacked again on 5 June, and on 6 June the army withdrew from it. In the same week JNIM fighters reached inside the Timbuktu camp with a car bomb before being repelled, and Islamic State Sahel overran the camp at Tessit south of Gao.
