Signing of the Algiers Agreement — Key Events — Sahel

What happened

The government, the pro-government Platform and the separatist CMA sign the Algerian-brokered Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation — decentralisation, integration of ex-combatants, and development for the north.

The only comprehensive settlement of the northern question ever signed. Its implementation stalled almost immediately, and its slow death — terminated in 2024 — tracks the whole arc from peace process to renewed war.
