In brief

The territorial defence service of the Polish Armed Forces, one of the five services the armed forces’ portal lists: professional soldiers and part-time volunteers, in the ministry’s description, tasked with deterrence, defence, crisis-management support, host-nation support to NATO elements and countering hybrid and asymmetric action. Its brigades are not named on any Polish page read and none is authored.

Broad area of activity
Polish territory, organised territorially; the ministry publishes no brigade list and none is recorded.
Notable history
The ministry describes the service as an integral part of Poland’s deterrence and defence potential, built from professional soldiers and volunteers serving part-time. The 2018 reform pages set it apart from the rest of the reform: while the two commands and the support inspectorate moved under the Chief of the General Staff, the territorial forces’ commander was to remain directly under the Minister until the service reached full operational capability. The portal lists it beside the four regular services as a service in its own right.
Strengths
A territorial layer with a published host-nation support task: the ministry lists support to NATO elements on Polish territory among the service’s responsibilities, beside crisis management with the interior and defence ministries and countering hybrid and asymmetric action. For a state that is the reinforcement corridor to the Baltic states, a territorial service with that mandate is part of the corridor’s organisation, not only of its home defence.
Limitations
No brigade is named on any Polish page read, so the service’s territorial organisation is not carried; its strength and readiness are not published and would not be recorded. Its subordination is the 2018 settlement — under the Minister pending full capability — and no gov.pl page read records the change the ministry said would follow.
