Its peacetime armies, the 2nd Guards Combined Arms and the 41st, deployed to Ukraine's north-east and Donbas; the district has since been the administrative home of a large share of the mobilised and contract force and of the refineries and plants the Ukrainian deep-strike campaign reached in 2025–26.
