- Istotna historia
- A Soviet field army re-formed in 2001 at Samara as the Volga region's command and the western of the Central Military District's two armies. It entered Ukraine in the first weeks of the invasion on the northern Kharkiv axis and reinforced the Izium bridgehead in spring 2022, and was among the formations driven back across the Oskil in the September 2022 counteroffensive. Since then its brigades have been tracked in the Kupiansk and Lyman sectors under the Western Group of Forces, fighting a thousand kilometres from their home stations — the pattern for every formation of a district whose function in this war is to supply units.
