- Formed with the theatre commands in 2016 from the air forces of the former Nanjing Military Region. It is the organisation that generates the activity the outside world reads this system through: median-line crossings from August 2022 onward, daily air defence identification zone entries, and the large multi-service exercises the theatre announces by name. Two things are worth keeping apart when reading those numbers. The counts are Taiwanese detections published by Taiwan's defence ministry, not independent measurements; and a sortie is an event, not an intention — the module counts activity and does not infer purpose from volume. The 2026 pattern makes that caution concrete: detected air activity fell substantially through the first half of the year while naval and coast guard presence did not, which is a change in the mix of instruments rather than a reduction in pressure. - Points forts
- Scale, a rapidly modernised fleet, and the ability to sustain a tempo of activity that imposes disproportionate maintenance and crew-fatigue costs on a much smaller opponent operating from a smaller number of known airfields.
- Limites
- Pilot training depth and combat experience are untested; aerial refuelling and airborne early-warning capacity remain the practical limits on sustained activity at distance, particularly east of Taiwan; and high tempo costs the larger force something too, which published counting exercises rarely register. No basing, unit, sortie-generation or disposition information is published in this module.

Justice Mission-2025 : le plus grand exercice depuis 2022, et le plus rapproché
Le PLA Eastern Theater Command a annoncé le matin du 29 décembre 2025 des exercices conjoints baptisés « Justice Mission-2025 », impliquant des unités de l’armée de terre, de la marine, de l’armée de l’air et de la Force des fusées dans les eaux et l’espace aérien autour de Taïwan. C’était le huitième exercice majeur autour de l’île depuis août 2022 ; il s’est poursuivi jusqu’à ce que le commandement en déclare la fin tard le 31 décembre, l’activité la plus intense se concentrant sur les deux premiers jours. Le ministère taïwanais de la Défense a signalé 89 aéronefs et 28 bâtiments navals détectés le premier jour — dont 13 appartenaient aux garde-côtes chinois et non à la marine — et 71 aéronefs ainsi que 15 autres navires des garde-côtes le deuxième jour ; le 29 décembre a été la deuxième plus forte entrée journalière dans l’ADIZ jamais enregistrée. Les zones de fermeture annoncées ont été publiées en partie par des avertissements de navigation de l’Eastern Theater Command et en partie par la Maritime Safety Administration de la RPC, une zone supplémentaire n’ayant été annoncée que par radio. Les versions divergent sur le total : le ministère taïwanais de la Défense a identifié sept zones désignées, tandis qu’une compilation en compte huit.
Participation aux campagnes
La ligne médiane cesse de jouer un rôle de retenue
Après les exercices d’août 2022, les franchissements de la ligne médiane du détroit de Taïwan par des aéronefs de l’APL deviennent routiniers plutôt qu’exceptionnels, et Pékin rejette publiquement l’existence de la ligne en tant que limite reconnue. Le ministère taïwanais de la Défense continue de signaler les franchissements chaque jour.
