- Historique notable
- Announced in January 2025 at roughly 5,000 personnel and formally inaugurated on 20 December 2025 at a ceremony held at an air base in Bamako, under the command of Burkinabè General Daouda Traoré. It is funded, with the confederation's other institutions, by the 0.5% import levy the three states agreed on 28 March 2025. Its command element is co-located with the Russian Africa Corps at Base 101 in Niamey. The force was created to answer a real and specific problem: JNIM and Islamic State Sahel operate across the three states' shared borders, and each national army's operations stop at those borders. A joint command is the obvious institutional answer to that asymmetry.
