- Historique notable
- Russia formed the 7th Military Base in early 2009 at Gudauta, the site of a Soviet airborne base that Russia had never fully vacated after the 1990s, and a 2010 agreement with the de facto authorities gave it a forty-nine-year term. It is a brigade-sized ground formation of the Southern Military District, and since 2023 Russia has developed a naval facility at Ochamchire further down the coast — a Black Sea basing move read across the region in the context of its Crimean losses. The Abkhaz de facto security structures operate alongside the garrison, which the module's records describe as the presence that defines the entity's security. Georgia regards the base, like its South Ossetian counterpart, as an occupation.
