- The Mali–Burkina Faso–Niger tri-border region, with origins in northern Burkina Faso. Reported as a participant in the encirclement of Djibo, alongside other JNIM components.
- Bemerkenswerte Geschichte
- Ansarul Islam emerged in Burkina Faso in late 2016 — the first substantial jihadist movement of Burkinabè origin — and was subsequently incorporated into JNIM, which is what allowed the coalition's expansion from northern Burkina Faso into south-western Niger and eastern Burkina Faso between 2017 and 2018. It is reported among the forces that encircled Djibo from February 2022, in the siege that has run for over four years. Its significance is structural rather than numerical: JNIM did not spread into Burkina Faso primarily by sending Malians, it absorbed a movement that was already there. That is why the coalition's geography cannot be described from any single country's evidence base.

Emerged independently in northern Burkina Faso in late 2016 and was subsequently incorporated into JNIM. Like the coalition's other katibas it retains management autonomy over its own area and constituency while receiving operational direction on targets from the centre.

Die Einkesselung von Djibo beginnt
Dschihadistische Kräfte, vor allem Ansarul Islam und JNIM, schlossen Djibo, die Hauptstadt der Provinz Soum im Norden Burkina Fasos, ein, zerstörten Infrastruktur, verminten die Straßen und überfielen Versorgungskonvois. Die umliegende Bevölkerung wurde gewaltsam in die Stadt umgesiedelt, deren Einwohnerzahl von etwa 60,000 auf zwischen 200,000 und 300,000 und bis Dezember 2022 auf etwa 370,000 stieg. Ab etwa Mai 2022 hing die Versorgung hauptsächlich von einer humanitären Luftbrücke ab.
