- The Mali–Burkina Faso–Niger tri-border region, with origins in northern Burkina Faso. Reported as a participant in the encirclement of Djibo, alongside other JNIM components.

- Ansarul Islam emerged in Burkina Faso in late 2016 — the first substantial jihadist movement of Burkinabè origin — and was subsequently incorporated into JNIM, which is what allowed the coalition's expansion from northern Burkina Faso into south-western Niger and eastern Burkina Faso between 2017 and 2018. It is reported among the forces that encircled Djibo from February 2022, in the siege that has run for over four years. Its significance is structural rather than numerical: JNIM did not spread into Burkina Faso primarily by sending Malians, it absorbed a movement that was already there. That is why the coalition's geography cannot be described from any single country's evidence base.

طوّقت قوات جهادية، أساسًا أنصار الإسلام وجماعة نصرة الإسلام والمسلمين، Djibo عاصمة إقليم Soum في شمال بوركينا فاسو، فدمّرت البنية التحتية، وزرعت الألغام في الطرق، ونصبت الكمائن لقوافل الإمداد. ونُقل السكان المحيطون قسرًا إلى داخل البلدة، فارتفع عدد سكانها من نحو 60,000 نسمة إلى ما بين 200,000 و300,000، ونحو 370,000 بحلول ديسمبر 2022. ومنذ نحو مايو 2022 بات الإمداد يعتمد أساسًا على الجسر الجوي الإنساني.
