Broad area of activity

Central and western Taiwan, including the central section of the west-coast plain

Notable history

The central of the ROC Army's three standing corps, designated the Fifth Theatre of Operations from 1 January 2022. Its area covers the middle of the western coastal plain and the western approaches to the central mountain range, and it is the theatre through which Taiwan's east–west road and rail links pass — the connection between the populated west and the eastern coast where much of the island's hardened infrastructure sits. In January 2026 a communications group returned to army control from the Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command, one of several transfers in that command's restructuring; it is recorded here because it shows the boundary between the services and the joint information command still moving.

Strengths

Holds the interior lines that connect the western population centres to the eastern approaches, and covers the central plain with a standing joint theatre command.

Limitations

The same central position that makes the theatre a connector makes its lateral communications the thing published commentary treats as a single point of failure, and this module publishes no assessment of that. No subordinate order of battle, strengths, dispositions or readiness are recorded.
