In brief

The naval service, its statute and structure approved by ministerial order V-152 of 17 February 2016 together with the statutes of its subordinate units, amended since. Those subordinate units are not named in the order’s title and none is authored here; the principal-structure law names them as a warship flotilla and a sea and coastal surveillance service.

Broad area of activity
Lithuania’s coast and waters from Klaipėda, the state’s only port and the point through which sea reinforcement would arrive.
Notable history
The service’s statute and structure, and the statutes of its subordinate units, were approved by ministerial order V-152 of 17 February 2016 and have been amended since; the principal-structure law fixes its shape as a warship flotilla and a sea and coastal surveillance service, and the Seimas’s 2025 amendment gave the port and coastal defence element the name of General Kazimieras Nestoras Sapiega as a fusilier battalion. It has belonged since 1998 to the three-nation Baltic Naval Squadron built around mine countermeasures.
Strengths
A service organised around the two things a ninety-kilometre coast needs — surveillance of the approaches and mine countermeasures in the port — with a statutory structure and a place in the Baltic mine-countermeasures cooperation that predates NATO membership. Klaipėda is the sea entry to the Suwałki ground, and this is the service that keeps it open.
Limitations
The order names its subordinate units only as a class, so the branch ends at the service; the flotilla named in law has no statute this project has read. Vessels, readiness and stations are not published in any instrument read and are not carried.
