In brief
The land service, whose eight brigade-level units the Army publishes by name in English with their roles and garrisons. Seven are authored here; the Army Academy is a school and is not. Nothing below brigade is published, and nothing below brigade is carried.

- Broad area of activity
- Finland’s land territory. The Army states four tasks on its own site — defending Finland’s land area, supporting other authorities, providing and receiving international assistance, and crisis management — and describes its wartime troops in three categories: operational units for mobile battle, regional units for area control and local units for target protection across the country.
- Notable history
- The Army’s peacetime structure of an Army Command and eight brigade-level units is the training machine of a conscript system that predates accession and was not reorganised by it. What changed in 2023 was the frame around it: a land force built for the defence of one territory now sits inside the alliance’s collective-defence planning, exercises with allied mechanised troops on Finnish ground and hosts a Swedish-led multinational battlegroup in Lapland, authored separately in this module.
- Strengths
- A published structure with a clear purpose. Each named brigade states in English what it trains and where, from the arctic and ground-based air defence specialisation of the northernmost brigade to the urban-warfare regiment for the capital region. The defence forces’ materiel gallery attributes main systems to the Army by arm of service, which is why this record and not any brigade carries the equipment edges.
- Limitations
- The tree shows the training organisation, not the fighting one. The Army names its wartime categories but not its wartime formations, publishes no battalion and gives no reserve figure, so a reader who counts seven formations here is counting garrisons that train conscripts, not the force Finland would mobilise. Equipment attribution stops at the service for the same reason: the gallery names no formation.

Rows are layout only — position and order carry no hierarchy, importance, sequence or strength. Every record shown is an immediate subordinate of the selected organisation. Headings are derived from each record’s own type and echelon. They are not command layers, and no such layer exists in the force tree.
