- The ministry publishes a skeleton: the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff as central organs of command, the Ground Forces and the Air Force and Air Defence Forces as the two services, the Special Operations Forces and the special troops beside them, with two operational commands — Western and North-Western — created in December 2001 from the Soviet-era army corps as the basis of the Ground Forces. Belarusian territory carried the northern axis of the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and Belarusian airspace and training areas have remained available to Russian forces since. No Belarusian units have been committed to that war.
