- Southern Russia from the Caucasus to the Sea of Azov, Crimea, and the occupied regions of Ukraine that Russia assigned to the district in 2023. Nothing about dispositions is authored.
- Historique notable
- Created in the 2010 reform that reduced Russia's districts to four, from the North Caucasus district and the Black Sea Fleet's area, and the district from which the 2014 Crimea operation, the Donbas intervention and the 2022 southern axis were staged. Its peacetime armies — the 8th, formed in 2017 around the Donbas separatist corps, and the 58th in the Caucasus — are the formations the module carries beneath it. In 2023 Russia formally assigned the four annexed regions to the district. A district in this war is an administrative and mobilisation echelon: the fighting is commanded by groupings of forces that cut across district lines, which is why the atlas draws the district as the peacetime parent and grades wartime subordination separately.
