- Historically the northeast — Hasakah, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces — and the Tanf garrison on the Iraqi and Jordanian border. No presence since April 2026; nothing about residual personnel is authored.
- Historique notable
- Small advisory deployments began in 2015 in support of the Kurdish-led forces that became the SDF; the partnership took Raqqa in 2017 and ended the territorial caliphate at Baghouz in March 2019, after which a residual force of around a thousand remained to prevent ISIS regeneration and to guard the northeast's detention population. The December 2024 fall of the Assad state changed the mission's premise: the transitional government it had no relationship with became the state the SDF would have to join. The United States brokered the March 2025 and then the 30 January 2026 integration agreements, then withdrew — Tanf and the Deir ez-Zor bases first, the last major base handed to Syrian government forces on 16 April 2026. The ISIS file passed to Damascus and to the residual anti-ISIS campaign the module records; the sanctions relationship continued through the certification cycle and the September 2026 rescission of the state-sponsor designation.

- Historically, the air power and intelligence that made the SDF a force capable of taking cities, and the leverage that produced an integration agreement neither Syrian party could have reached alone.
