- The Interior Ministry under Anas Khattab has rebuilt the internal-security apparatus from the dissolved police and intelligence branches of the Assad era, around a General Security Service and an Internal Security Command, with new directorates — border guards, counter-terrorism, road security, tourist police — created through 2025 and a proposal to unify security and police under one ministry. In 2026 the minister was additionally named head of the National Security Bureau, concentrating public security and intelligence in one hand. Its forces deployed into the north-eastern cities from February 2026 under the integration agreement, with Kurdish policing reported as continuing until a merger is completed, and it is the Interior Ministry's Internal Security Forces — not the army — that fought Sweida's National Guard in the western countryside on 31 August 2026. The Asayish's integration into this structure is one of the civilian files the January 2026 agreement left open.

Dans des propos tenus devant une assemblée à Sweida, rapportés le 28 août 2026, le cheikh al-Aql Hikmat al-Hijri — l’autorité religieuse la plus influente parmi les Druzes de Syrie — a décrit la communauté comme « une partie intégrante de l’État d’Israël », a fait l’éloge du modèle étatique israélien et a affirmé un terrain doctrinal commun. D’autres figures druzes, y compris dans le Golan, ont publiquement rejeté cette caractérisation, et elle ne représente pas l’ensemble des Druzes syriens. Dans la soirée du lundi 31 août, les combats ont repris dans la campagne ouest de Sweida entre les Forces de sécurité intérieure du ministère de l’Intérieur et la National Guard, une formation armée alignée sur al-Hijri. Les versions du bilan divergent : les médias d’État syriens ont fait état de dix membres des forces de sécurité gouvernementales blessés, tandis que d’autres comptes rendus régionaux ont recensé un homme tué et onze blessés, dont un enfant, et ont attribué l’ouverture du feu à une position de la National Guard bombardant deux villages. Les comptes rendus font aussi état de deux civils tués lors d’affrontements antérieurs à l’ouest de la ville de Sweida. Le calme serait revenu en quelques jours. La feuille de route de Sweida de septembre 2025 reste non appliquée et aucune piste de négociation entre Damas et al-Hijri n’a été confirmée par l’une ou l’autre partie.
