- Historique notable
- The Asayish were the police of the self-administration from 2012 — checkpoints, detention, the guarding of the ISIS camp and prison system, and the internal security of a third of Syria at the administration's peak. The January 2026 agreement left their integration into the Interior Ministry as one of its open civilian files: Interior Ministry units deployed into the north-eastern cities from February 2026 with Kurdish policing reported as continuing until a merger is completed, and reporting through August 2026 described Hasakah as still under a divided administration. The SDF's declared dissolution in August 2026 did not settle the Asayish's status, and the transfer of the al-Hol and prison guard responsibilities is the most consequential piece of it.
