Europe, with a forward command post in Poland.
Notable history
At the Madrid summit in June 2022 the United States announced that a V Corps forward command post, an Army garrison headquarters and a field support battalion would be permanently stationed in Poland — described by the State Department as the first permanently stationed US forces on NATO’s eastern flank.
Strengths
A permanently stationed headquarters is a different commitment from a rotation, and this is the only one of its kind on the flank.
Limitations
The permanent element is a command post and supporting units, not a corps. The rotational armoured brigade under Operation Atlantic Resolve is a separate arrangement, and neither is the NATO battlegroup Poland hosts.
