- Notable history
- Established on 1 July 1992 with its headquarters at Cēsis, reorganised on 1 December 2003 as the National Guard’s 2nd district, given a brigade headquarters again on 1 October 2016 in Riga, renamed the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade in August 2017 and moved to Valmiera on 1 June 2018. The move out of Riga into its own region is the point of the 2016–2018 reorganisation: the brigade headquarters now sits where its battalions are.
- Strengths
- The territorial force on the Latvian side of the Estonian border, with a published record of peacetime emergency and disaster-relief tasks in the region and abroad.
- Limitations
- The brigade publishes battalions, a seat and a commander and no more; strength is published and deliberately not carried, and readiness, equipment and wartime tasks beyond the general statement are not published.
