What happened

Parcels holding incendiary devices concealed in consumer goods are posted from Lithuania in July 2024. Three ignite — at a courier hub near Leipzig on 20 July, in a courier vehicle in Poland on 21 July and at a depot near Birmingham on 22 July; a fourth mechanism fails. Lithuanian prosecutors charge a network they state was led by people tied to Russian military intelligence, and a trial of five defendants opens at Vilnius District Court on 17 April 2026. No verdict had been delivered by September 2026.

The first case in the module where a device built for sabotage travelled inside the alliance's own commercial infrastructure rather than being placed at a site. It is also the clearest measure of the attribution lag: the acts are July 2024, the charge September 2025, the trial April 2026, and the verdict is still outstanding.
