A multi-corps land component command stands up at Mikkeli — Key Events — NATO Eastern Flank

What happened

Multi-Corps Land Component Command Northwest becomes operational in Mikkeli, Finland, in conjunction with the Finnish Army Command, and is formally opened in October. Its published task is command and control of the Alliance's land forces and synchronisation of national land forces' operation in the northern area, with staff from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the United States and the Netherlands.

This is Nordic enlargement becoming command structure. It is the first NATO land command in the module's northern arena, it is hosted inside a national army command rather than beside one, and it is the headquarters NATO names as lead command for the ninth battlegroup.
