Czechia, Hungary and Poland accede — Key Events — NATO Eastern Flank

What happened

The three states invited at the 1997 Madrid Summit become members, the first former Warsaw Pact countries to join the Alliance. At the same year's Washington Summit NATO creates the Membership Action Plan to prepare further candidates.

This is the wave that gave NATO a land frontier in central Europe and made Poland — today the largest land force on the flank, the host of two multinational headquarters and the framework of the reinforcement problem — an Ally. Hungary and Czechia are the central-flank states whose formations and hosting arrangements this module carries.
