- Base 101, the air force base at Niamey's Diori Hamani International Airport, which also hosts the AES joint command. That co-location is the structural fact underneath both of the episodes below.

- Russian trainers relocated to Air Base 101 in May 2024, while American personnel were still present on the base; US forces completed their withdrawal from Niger on 15 September 2024. A high-level Russian defence delegation visited all three AES capitals in July 2025. On 28–29 January 2026, Islamic State's Sahel Province — reported alongside its West Africa Province — attacked Diori Hamani International Airport. Russia's Foreign Ministry stated that the attack "was repelled through the joint efforts of the Russian Ministry of Defence's African Corps and the Nigerien armed forces". Twenty attackers were killed, including a French national, at least eleven were captured, and four Nigerien soldiers were wounded. General Tiani subsequently visited the Russian base in person to express gratitude for the force's professionalism. On 29–30 August 2026 mutinous Nigerien soldiers attacked the airport, the presidential palace, the state broadcaster and Base 101. Government forces retook the base. On 29 August Russia's ambassador, Viktor Voropayev, told TASS that the command of Base 101 had appealed to Russian personnel for assistance and that the chief of the general staff, the army chief of staff and the base commander visited the Africa Corps compound to thank it; he told Western agencies the mutineers were neutralised "particularly thanks to the intervention" of the force. Reporting attributes ground and aerial support, drones included, to Africa Corps personnel. That is the second official Russian acknowledgement of an engagement in this module, and the only one anywhere in the Sahel of a Russian force acting in an internal contest. The contingent is reported by the Associated Press at 200–300 personnel; no official figure exists and none is adopted here.

- Force size, financing and command arrangements are not disclosed; the 200–300 figure is reporting. The August 2026 episode is now officially accounted for on the Russian side, and the account settles the question this record previously held open: the force was attacked at its own base and, on its ambassador's telling, acted because the base command asked it to — so force protection and intervention on the government's side happened together, and the distinction between them no longer separates the readings. What remains unestablished is the extent of what Africa Corps did (drones, ground action and the reported holding of Russian personnel are all reporting), and whether it would act in an internal contest away from its own base or in another AES state. No Nigerien official account of the request has been published. Niamey was also reported in May 2025 to have ended technical-intelligence arrangements with Russian and Turkish providers for poor performance, which marks the limit of the dependence: selective, and centred on the base.
