The emblem of the Armed Forces of Armenia — a shield bearing the eagle-and-lion arms over crossed elements, with the service's name in Armenian. - Armenia's air arm has always been small — Su-25 attack aircraft from the Soviet inheritance and four Su-30SM fighters bought from Russia in 2019 — and its air defence was the Soviet layered model of S-300, Tor, Osa and older systems. The 2020 war was fought largely against that defence: Azerbaijani loitering munitions and drones found and destroyed radars and launchers whose losses were documented publicly, and the air arm played almost no part. The service since then is the clearest case of the post-2020 reform in practice: Indian Akash medium-range systems delivered from November 2024 as the first export of the type, French radars, and a stated prioritisation of air defence and unmanned systems as long-term projects.
