- The brigade that inherited the MiG-29 regiment at Vasylkiv and became, in the full-scale war, the formation most identified with Ukraine's fighter defence of its own cities: its aircraft were dispersed within hours of the opening strikes, flew the intercepts over Kyiv in the first weeks, and through 2022–24 carried the MiG-29's improvised second life — Western anti-radiation missiles and guided bombs bolted onto Soviet airframes, and a role in the air war's most publicised moments that the brigade's information output has made its own. Its base has been struck repeatedly, which is the price of a name known since 1992.
