W skrócie

The Arctic-based strategic fleet — home of most of Russia's ballistic-missile submarines — stripped of its joint strategic command status in February 2024 when its regions passed to the re-created Leningrad Military District; peripheral to the Black Sea theatre but a source of Kalibr-capable units and a naval-infantry brigade for the land war.

Szeroki obszar działania
The Barents Sea and the Arctic; the fleet's ships have fired Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukraine from the Black Sea after transiting there before 2022, and its marine brigade has fought on land. No current disposition is authored.
Istotna historia
The fleet that holds most of Russia's sea-based nuclear deterrent, and for a decade something more: from December 2014 the Northern Fleet Joint Strategic Command ran the Arctic as a military district of its own, with army and air formations under a naval headquarters. That experiment ended on 1 March 2024, when the decree re-creating the Leningrad Military District assigned the Murmansk, Arkhangelsk and Komi regions to the new district and returned the fleet to a fleet. Its part in this war has been indirect: surface ships and submarines that reached the Black Sea before the straits closed, and the 61st Naval Infantry Brigade, committed to the land war from 2022.
Mocne strony
The base structure and submarine force that make it Russia's most important fleet regardless of this war, and an Arctic position now facing a NATO that includes Finland and Sweden.
Ograniczenia
Locked out of the Black Sea by the straits regime since February 2022, so its contribution to the theatre is fixed at what was there before; its marine brigade has been reconstituted more than once; and the 2024 loss of district status subordinated its land and air components to an army district still being built.

Rodowód i historia instytucjonalna

Operated as the Northern Fleet Joint Strategic Command, a fifth military district in all but name, from December 2014 until 1 March 2024, when a presidential decree removed that status and assigned its regions to the Leningrad Military District.
