- Re-formed in 2016 at Valuyki, a garrison town a few kilometres from the Ukrainian border, as the 20th Army's second division in the post-2014 return to divisional structures — the most literal expression of the frontier the army was rebuilt for. In 2022 it was committed on the Kharkiv axis and driven back in the September counteroffensive; it has since been among the formations tracked on the Kupiansk sector, and its home region has been the war's most exposed Russian territory, reached by Ukrainian cross-border raids in 2023–24.
