Szeroki obszar działania: The Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb, the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea, with monitoring of the Gulf of Oman, the Gulf and the strait
Istotna historia: The Council launched Aspides in February 2024 as a defensive operation against the Houthi campaign that had been attacking merchant shipping in the Red Sea since late 2023 — an EU answer, under EU command, to a threat the American-led constructs answered with strikes the Union would not join. Its ships escorted merchant vessels and engaged the drones and missiles fired at them. The mandate was extended in February 2025 and again in February 2026, to 28 February 2027, and the 2026 decision widened the operation's area to include monitoring of the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf and added the collection of information on arms trafficking and shadow fleets. That makes it the European structure whose water is this module's, on both of the Gulf's chokepoints, and the Houthi blockade of Saudi-bound shipping declared at Bab el-Mandeb in July 2026 is the second campaign its mandate has met.
