- Historique notable
- Small and specialised for most of its existence, the marine corps was enlarged during the 2017 reforms by transferring formations from the ground force, and given a broader remit that includes overseas contingencies as well as regional ones. Its growth is routinely cited in invasion analysis, and the citation deserves care. The corps is not large enough to be the principal component of a cross-strait landing in any published treatment of that problem, and specialists consistently locate the binding constraint elsewhere — in lift, in sustainment and in the amphibious phase itself rather than in the size of the specialist amphibious force. Its expansion is at least as legible as an expeditionary development, matching the overseas deployments and basing the same decade produced.

- No combat experience; an opposed landing is the most demanding operation in warfare and nothing in the public record demonstrates the capability to conduct one at scale.
