- Historique notable
- The PLA had no separate ground-force headquarters until the 2015–16 reforms created one. Before that the army was not a service among services — it was the institution the whole military was built around, and the general departments that ran the PLA were staffed and led accordingly. Standing up a ground-force headquarters was the reform's way of demoting the army to parity with the navy, air force and rocket force, and the reason it matters to this module is indirect: a Taiwan contingency is a maritime, air and missile problem in which the ground service is the force provider for one component, and the degree to which the PLA has genuinely stopped being an army-centred organisation is one of the recurring questions in published assessment of whether its joint structures work.
- Points forts
- Very large scale and a deep industrial base behind it; a headquarters that now competes for resources on the same footing as the other services rather than owning the field.
- Limites
- No significant combat experience since 1979, and the reform that created this headquarters is recent enough that its cultural effect is asserted rather than demonstrated. Assessments of PLA ground capability vary widely among credible analysts and this module treats confident claims in either direction with caution. No formations, locations, strengths or readiness are recorded.

The 2015–16 reforms split force generation from operational command: the service raises, trains and equips ground forces, the theatre employs the ones assigned to it. Both relationships are real and neither is the tree parent twice — this record sits under the theatre because the theatre is what makes it relevant to this module.
