Relations were normalised under the Abraham Accords in September 2020, and the security component has since extended to early-warning coordination and defence-industrial contracts. The 2026 war is the test this record exists to capture: the UAE received nearly half of the more than 6,700 drones and missiles Iran fired at the six Gulf states between late February and mid-May, and reporting describes Israeli air-defence systems and trained personnel deployed to Emirati territory for the first time. A relationship that might have been expected to break under a regional war deepened instead. Vigil records what is reported and infers nothing beyond it: no covert cooperation is asserted, and shared opposition to Iran is not treated as evidence of a security arrangement.

Pourquoi c’est important

This is the most consequential structural change the war has produced in the Gulf's security architecture, and it sits inside the module alongside an Israel–Iran adversarial relationship and an Emirati suspension of relations with Tehran. Holding all three as separate authored records is what lets the module show a Gulf that is not one position.
