Battlefield role
Protected wheeled mobility for mechanised infantry, command posts and medical evacuation, and — in the RCH 155 configuration — self-propelled artillery on the same chassis; on the flank, the vehicle of the German and Dutch medium forces and of Lithuania's brigade.
Strengths
A modular design in which the mission module is exchanged on a common drive module, so that one fleet covers carrier, command, ambulance and gun; high protection for a wheeled vehicle; a production arrangement through OCCAR that lets small states order into an existing line and, in Lithuania's case, build part of the order at home.
Limitations
A heavy and expensive wheeled vehicle whose deliveries run on multi-year schedules — Lithuania's second batch arrives 2027–2029 — and a production line shared between Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Australia and now Ukraine's howitzers; the RCH 155 is a programme, not a fielded capability. NATO EASTERN FLANK. Lithuanian Vilkas deliveries documented at ministry ceremonies from 2019 to 2023 and the October 2024 follow-on contract with the April 2025 funding decision; German and Dutch follow-on procurement announced in 2024–2025. The type has been deployed on the Multinational Battlegroup rotations in Lithuania. No holdings, bases or unit assignments are stated. UKRAINE–RUSSIA. The RCH 155 howitzer only, as a pledge with a first training system delivered; no combat use is documented.
