Allies agree a new distribution of command-structure leadership — Key Events — NATO Eastern Flank

What happened

The North Atlantic Council agrees a new distribution of senior officer responsibility in NATO's command structure: the United Kingdom takes Joint Force Command Norfolk, Italy takes Joint Force Command Naples, Germany and Poland share Joint Force Command Brunssum on rotation, and the United States takes Allied Maritime Command while retaining Allied Land Command and Allied Air Command. The Supreme Allied Commander Europe remains a United States post. NATO states the change will be implemented incrementally in line with scheduled personnel rotation.

The command structure in this module's Force Atlas is the institution; this decision changes who leads it, and the incremental implementation is why the module's office records carry dates and expectations rather than a settled table. It is also the first redistribution of its kind since European allies began taking a larger share of the burden.
