Türkiye's stake had been the north and the Syrian state's military reconstruction; Israel's had been the south and the security architecture around the Golan. Abu al-Duhur is roughly 70 km from the Turkish border and roughly 280 km from the nearest Israeli-held ground, and both powers now treat what happens on it as their own security business. The escalation risk this event exposes is not a decision to fight but a failure to communicate: the strike was carried out without notice to a state whose officers, by Damascus's own account, use the site — which is the mechanism by which a dispute neither party says it wants could be started by misreading rather than by intent.
