The Army flag: a red field charged with a navy rectangle bearing the white sun of twelve rays, 2:3 — the National Revolutionary Army's flag, carried by the Army since. The design was verified independently of the file: the Armed Forces Flags Act and the vexillological record both give a red field with the blue-sky white-sun panel at the centre, which is what this file draws. - Designated the First Theatre of Operations in the 2022 reorganisation — the only theatre that is not part of Taiwan proper. Penghu's position is what makes it different from Kinmen and Matsu: it lies in the middle of the strait rather than a few kilometres off the Chinese coast, which means it is defensible in a way the near-shore islands are not, and it sits across the western approaches to Taiwan rather than beside them. It is the offshore command that features in Taiwan's own force-improvement announcements alongside the main-island theatres rather than as a separate category.
