Türkiye and Syria signed a joint training and advisory memorandum of understanding in Ankara on 13 August 2025. It converts what Türkiye accumulated across a decade of intervention — three ground operations, a border position and the patronage of the factions that helped end the Assad era — into first-partner status with the government that replaced it.

Dlaczego to ważne

It is the clearest measure of how far the transition has reorganised the region's alignments: the state whose forces entered Syria three times is now training the army of the government in Damascus. It also sets the terms on which Türkiye's core demand — no autonomous YPG-led force — is pursued institutionally rather than by operation.
