- The Turkish Land Forces are organised in field armies, and the 2nd Army — headquartered at Malatya, the second largest by personnel after the Istanbul-based 1st — holds the Syrian frontier and the Iraqi and Iranian borders beyond it. Its subordinate corps at Adana and Diyarbakır provided the headquarters and formations for Euphrates Shield in 2016, Olive Branch in 2018 and Peace Spring in 2019, and for the observation posts and garrisons that Türkiye maintained in Idlib and the northern zones afterwards. It is therefore the Turkish state organisation behind the presence this module records under the Türkiye-in-Syria record, and the formation that any recalibration toward the transitional government — the 2025 defence memorandum, the airfield rehabilitation, the disputed deployments of August 2026 — runs through. This record names the army and its role; it lists no corps, garrisons or strength.
