- Istotna historia
- Türkiye entered Syria in August 2016 with Euphrates Shield and did not leave: Olive Branch took Afrin in 2018, Peace Spring took the border strip in 2019, and observation posts and garrisons held the Idlib line after the 2020 ceasefire. The forces came from the 2nd Army's corps and the proxies from the factions Türkiye organised, paid and directed as the Syrian National Army. The fall of Damascus changed the presence's purpose rather than its location: the factions were absorbed into the new Ministry of Defence, a defence memorandum with the transitional government followed in 2025, Turkish delegations surveyed and rehabilitated airfields that Israel then struck, and the August 2026 Abu al-Duhur strike turned the question of Turkish deployments inside Syria into a dispute with Israel. Ankara's stated demand throughout — the dissolution of the YPG as an autonomous force — has run through the implementation of the January 2026 integration agreement, to which it is not a party.
