- The Azerbaijani air force holds the manned fleet — Soviet-era MiG-29 and Su-25 aircraft, with a JF-17 order from Pakistan reported — and the ground-based air defence built on Israeli Barak-8 and Russian S-300 systems; but the capability that made the service matter is unmanned. Turkish Bayraktar TB2s and Israeli Harop loitering munitions, integrated into a reconnaissance-strike system over a decade of procurement, found and destroyed Armenian air defences, artillery and armour in 2020 in the campaign that decided the war, and heavy Akinci drones have followed from 2023.
