La centrale nucléaire de Zaporizhzhia a perdu sa principale connexion Dniprovska de 750 kV en mars 2026. Dans le cadre d’un cessez-le-feu local négocié par l’AIEA — le sixième que l’Agence a négocié — la ligne a été physiquement réparée début juin, puis est restée hors tension : la sous-station qui l’alimente, à plus de cent kilomètres au nord-ouest, avait été lourdement endommagée par des frappes en mai. La centrale s’est retrouvée sur une seule ligne de 330 kV, contre les dix connexions extérieures dont elle disposait avant 2022, et au 8 août elle avait enregistré sa vingt-cinquième perte totale d’alimentation extérieure depuis le début de la guerre — dont treize depuis avril. Ses exploitants ont relevé le niveau d’eau dans les piscines de combustible usé des six réacteurs à l’arrêt afin de gagner du temps au cas où le réapprovisionnement en gazole ferait défaut lors d’une coupure plus longue.
This is the clearest published instance of the stage of the energy war that is easiest to miss. Almost everything written about Russian strikes on Ukraine's grid is about generation — how many gigawatts have been destroyed, how much has been rebuilt. But generation that survives is only worth what the transmission between it and the consumer can carry, and a substation is far cheaper to break than a power station is. Here the sequence is documented end to end by an international agency with inspectors on both sides of the line: the line was fixed, the ceasefire held long enough for the repair, and the electricity still did not flow. It generalises. The same layer decides whether the raised European import ceiling reaches anyone, and whether the three nuclear plants still in Ukrainian hands — about half of national generation capacity — can put their output into the grid. In January 2026 one of them had already reduced power after damage to electrical infrastructure. Vigil records this as an event because it converts a general claim about winter resilience into a specific, dated, externally verified mechanism.
