Service ensign: Army Flag of the Republic of China — carried by ROC Army, not issued to this record. The Army flag: a red field charged with a navy rectangle bearing the white sun of twelve rays, 2:3 — the National Revolutionary Army's flag, carried by the Army since. The design was verified independently of the file: the Armed Forces Flags Act and the vexillological record both give a red field with the blue-sky white-sun panel at the centre, which is what this file draws. - Northern Taiwan — the Taipei–Keelung–Taoyuan region and its approaches
- Historique notable
- One of the ROC Army's three standing army corps. Its analytical significance is not its size but its geography: the northern corps holds the seat of government, the northern ports and the shortest approaches from the strait to the political centre, which is why published discussion of a rapid political decapitation runs through this area. In the reorganisation confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense and effective 1 January 2022, the corps was designated the Third Theatre of Operations, and its commander assumes joint command of army, navy and air force elements in that theatre in a contingency. The change formalised an arrangement that had previously been applied only during exercises.
- Points forts
- A standing peacetime command that already exercises the wartime joint role, covering terrain its staff know and where interior lines are short. The theatre designation removes the improvisation step that the old corps structure required at the moment it would be least available.
- Limites
- The joint theatre concept is exercised annually and has never been tested, and Taiwan's own commentators note that the minister who announced it did not state whether an air force or navy officer could ever hold a theatre command — which is the question that decides whether the reform is structural or nominal. Vigil publishes no subordinate order of battle, no strengths and no readiness for this command; Chinese-language sources circulate personnel figures for it and this module does not reproduce them.
