- Established at a ceremony in Beijing on 19 April 2024, on the day the Strategic Support Force was eliminated. It was not the SSF's replacement in any simple sense: the SSF's Network Systems Department and Space Systems Department were split off as separate organisations, and the SSF's information-communication base was elevated from corps grade to deputy theatre grade and became this force. The PLA spokesman's framing on the day is the clearest available statement of the new architecture — four services and four arms, the arms being this force, the Aerospace Force, the Cyberspace Force and the Joint Logistics Support Force, all reporting directly to the Central Military Commission. For a military whose declared doctrine treats warfare as a contest between systems of reconnaissance, command and communications, giving the network its own CMC-level arm is a structural statement about where that doctrine locates the decisive function.
- Points forts
- Direct subordination to the Central Military Commission and a remit that spans the services rather than sitting inside one, which is the arrangement a joint communications backbone requires.
- Limites
- The reason for eliminating the SSF has not been stated, and the most careful published analysis says so explicitly rather than supplying one. The boundaries between this force, the Cyberspace Force and the Aerospace Force are described in official language that does not resolve where one remit ends; where the SSF's psychological-operations and Taiwan-directed political warfare elements went after 2024 is not established in open sources. Vigil records the institutions and their stated remits and attributes no capability, operation or incident to any of them.
