- Historique notable
- Saudi Arabia bought Chinese DF-3 intermediate-range missiles in the late 1980s, in the closing years of the Iran–Iraq war, and created a separate service to hold them. The force was publicly acknowledged only decades later and is the least documented of the five Ministry of Defence services; reported acquisitions of newer Chinese systems are carried here as reported. It exists in this atlas because it is the structural counterpart of the Iranian missile force — the one Gulf Arab state that answered Iran's programme with a service of its own rather than only with defences — and because a Saudi structure that omitted it would misstate what the kingdom holds.
- Points forts
- A deterrent the other Gulf states do not have, and the institutional experience of running a missile service for four decades.
- Limites
- Ageing, liquid-fuelled, inaccurate systems whose deterrent value is symbolic rather than operational, and a force about which the kingdom publishes almost nothing. No inventory, bases or readiness are recorded, and no source this module has read describes any role for it in the current war.
