- Saudi Arabia divides its armed power between two institutions on purpose. The Ministry of Defence holds the conventional military — the Royal Saudi Land Forces, Air Force, Naval Forces, Air Defence Forces and Strategic Missile Force — while the National Guard is a separate armed force under a separate ministry. The arrangement is a regime-security design as much as a military one, and it means that "the Saudi military" describes two structures rather than one. In this module the relevant services are the air and air-defence arms, which carry the kingdom's response to missile and drone threat, and it is the disputed strike on the Ras Tanura terminal in March 2026 rather than any Saudi offensive action that gives the record its chronology.
- Points forts
- The largest defence budget in the region, modern Western equipment across the air and air-defence services, and a decade of continuous operational exposure to missile and drone attack that few other Gulf forces have.
- Limites
- The Yemen campaign is widely assessed to have exposed limits in sustained joint operations, and the division between the Ministry of Defence forces and the National Guard imposes duplication that the kingdom accepts for political reasons. Saudi Arabia is not a belligerent in the current war, and this module makes no claim about what its forces have or have not done in it. All five services are authored below; the air and air-defence services carry the evidence, and the others are structural. Nothing in this record describes force levels, basing, holdings or readiness.

The National Guard sits under its own Ministry of National Guard rather than under the Ministry of Defence; both answer ultimately to the King as supreme commander. Placing the Guard beneath the Armed Forces would misstate the structure the Saudi state deliberately maintains.
