Damage occurred repeatedly. The Nord Stream pipelines were destroyed in September 2022, with deliberate destruction established and no state attribution four years on. The Balticconnector gas pipeline and adjacent cables were damaged in October 2023, with Finnish investigators concluding anchor damage and Chinese authorities calling the incident accidental. The Estlink 2 interconnector and further cables were damaged in December 2024, crew charged and jurisdiction litigated for more than a year without the merits being heard.
